Reviews: Dublin Deck NY
07-09-2009 J.Biz Off the south coast of Long Island in Patchogue N.Y. sit a large outdoor bar with island decor and urban tunes. The Dublin Deck is a night spot tuned for summer heat.
If your M.O. is to meet new people, then you will have no problem at Dublin It has an upper and lower level with plenty of tables and tropical overhangs. It is packed with partygoers on a Saturday night.
So much so the line at the entrance is held up until levels fall off
capacity. There is also a modest sized dance floor to keep the honeys
grooving. Don't worry about missing tunes if you're elsewhere in
the venue because there are speakers throughout that play the DJ's sets
at conversation sound levels so you can enjoy it and hear the person in
front of you blabber in alcohol fueled speech. Expect to hear Top 40 music with a touch of the 80's.
As
far as the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol is concerned the bartenders can mix good
drinks no matter what the order. Priced a little high for the suburbs but
the price ceiling seemed to be around twelve bucks. The crowd was
very friendly and youthful. Mostly well behaved college students in
attendance. If you can handle that crowd and atmosphere then I advice
you give Dublin Deck a check.
Reviews: Strata NYC
01-23-2009 J.Biz Arriving fresh and early I have no reports of a negative "line story," I walked right in. The decor was decent. There was lots of drapery, some brushed metal and plenty of seating of V.I.P. seating. A majority of this seating is on the second floor, where there is little space to boogie. The first floor had an average sized dance floor and a raised V.I.P. area with additional dance space.
An Achilles heal of the venue was the bar tending. If there is a such thing the drinks were very strong. It may have been a bad thing because two separate pairs of women challenged each other to Mortal Combat. Doesn't matter who won it wasn't tasteful or lady-like.
The best trait of Strata was the music. The DJ rocked. Although it was a hugely youthful hip-hop dominated crowd the music took great music from great eras of the past in R&B.
Strata was a decent time out. Half creature keeper, half musical bliss. Worth a visit if in the area and you have a thirst for 100 proof beverages. Just know it can get krunk in a bad way. Did you step on my shoe?
Reviews: Pacha NYC
10-17-2008 J.Biz Pacha is a worldwide chain of night clubs originating in Europe where it dominates. It has 25 locations overall in major cities like London, Barcelona, Madrid and finally New York. Currently serving as the only branch in America, Pacha NYC definitely is a hardcore dance all night club.
When you first set foot in Pacha you hear nothing but fast paced House music which runs endless throughout the night. The sound system sounds like nothing else in the states and is definitely tailored for fast drums and fast crescendos and decrescendos. There also seem to be over ten subwoofers throughout as there is no shortage of bass within the building. King Kong definitely climbed out of Jibbs trunk and dragged his knuckles into Pacha.
Pacha definitely prides itself in being a super club with over thirty thousand square feet of space divided into 4 floors including a Hip-Hop room and "Pachita", a club inside a club on the top floor. There are plenty of lounge areas spread throughout with its main dancefloor dead center of the ground level room. There are tons of light and smoke filling the main dance floor as well as the second floor which is like an oversized balcony of sorts. Women dancing in showers also help set the party atmosphere.
Pacha is for you if you value House music, sweat, smoke, and flashing lights. If this combination makes you ill then don't walk in the door. Or if seeing people ill afterwards outside of the venue isn't in your taste then don't go near it. Otherwise, party on!
Reviews: Sol NYC
08-17-2008 by J.Biz Sol is an industrial space nicely decorated with high
ceilings.Their sound system is quite good with nearly 8 pillars of
speakers mounted high on the walls in addition to the set on the dance
floor. There is an elevated dance floor above the entrance where go go
girls get busy in revealing outfits to help set the atmosphere. There
are two large bars, one on each level.
Take note the drinks
there are plenty expensive. I payed $14 for a mixed drink at the lower
level bar and $12 at the upper level bar for the same drink. They
definitely need to set equal prices. The drinks were mixed well, not
too strong nor too diluted.
The DJ was good. He used a balanced
mix of top 40 and great songs from the 90's. The bass was a bit
excessive and he could have played more songs, if he didn't play every
song in its entirety.
There was a decently mixed crowd but not
too diverse and the dance floor was minimally populated. Guest included
all sexualities harmonious thankfully, and the bathroom was very clean.
Aside from the expensive beverages Sol is plenty of fun.
Reviews: The Sutra Lounge
05-10-2008 By J.Biz
Thanks go out to my boy Rob for getting me in to the Sutra
Lounge last night. It was the official party celebrating the release of URB magazine
and DJ Quest Love of The Roots was rocking the ones and twos. The venue is well
designed with plenty of seating and specialty drinks at the two bars. The Sutra
Lounge has two floors each with its own DJ At times although once Quest started
spinning, his music bumped both floors.
The top floor has a decent sized dance area and lots of
cushioned seating lines the walls. Downstairs is more of the same but the AC is
actually a lot more effective as it gets crowded in there fast. Mos Def was in
the building mingling with us commoners and was very down to earth. As the DJ
downstairs played a Mos Def tune, Mos started screaming out “Brooooklyyn!” The
music played was a good mix of so called conscious rap, old school soul and
some recent gems. The crowd was well entertained all night.
The Sutra Lounge has a very sophisticated crowd and a wide
variety of personal styles on board. It’s a great time if you are ever at the
heart of the EastVillage
with a safe atmosphere where you can let go and just be yourself.
Reviews:The 40/40 Club
nymag.com
The 40/40 Club was opened in NYC on June 18, 2003. It’s located at 6 W25th St. New York, N.Y. Open Mon- Fri 5pm- 4am, Sat. and Sun. 12pm- 4am. Part owned and publicized by Rap superstar Jay-Z, the bar is influenced by sports. There are many jerseys hung on the walls , video games, pool tables and flat panel LCD TV’s showcasing sporting events. The first level of the venue has leather chairs elevated by the ceiling, tiled flooring, and a massive bar.
The second floor is home to the D.J. who spins records or spins iTunes right at the top of the steps when sports aren’t being shown. Hip Hop and R&B are the formula for the dancing, and an abundance of Jay-Z, Rocafella and Beyonce tunes are in rotation. There are 4 rooms upstairs including a Cognac Room, Remy Lounge, the Hall of Fame Room and Jay’s Room. Each room has leather couches, LCD televisions and waitress service.
The bar is very much overcrowded on Saturday nights and movement is nearly impossible. There are bouncers on the second floor just to ensure there is a path to move up and down the stairway. The crowd is usually well dressed and friendly despite the sweat from being crammed. Drinks are priced for Manhattan at around $12 for liquor and $7 beers. There is no cover charge, and usually easy accessibility to get in and out the building. It is a decent stay overall and a good time.
